If you've never had the chance to play this game at Walt Disney World, it allowed Guests to go treasure hunting through Magic Kingdom. The other tunnel replaced the poster with a Walt Disney World Railroad poster, leaving us hoping that the railroad will reopen soon. At the same time, Disney's push for interactive queues meant that playgrounds, hands-on experiences and literal video games were installed on travel lines, all with the goal of easing frustrations caused by FastPass and giving guests something to do while waiting for return times. News about the game first leaked in interviews with Jonathan Freeman for the Aladdin musical, mentioning that he was repeating Jafar for a new attraction where guests would fight Disney villains.
A classic Magic Kingdom experience is coming to an end, as Disney has confirmed that Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom will close later this month. In a nutshell, smartphones made interactive gaming (and, frankly, much of Disney's RFID infrastructure that's less than a decade old) obsolete at worst and outdated at best. It's the only Disney activity that kept us engaged even when we weren't at Disney with all the fun of trading and chasing cards at home with people from all over the world. The popular card game Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom closes later this month, after almost eight years of operation at Walt Disney World.
The beloved game allowed guests to collect trading cards and use them to defeat Disney villains on different “portals” throughout the park. My daughter who is tied in a wheelchair with a trachea loves Disney and that was one of the few things I could do at Disney. Yes, I will miss this game, it was another way to enjoy the park without waiting 90 minutes to have a little fun and feel that the magic kingdom was more of a role-playing game, not just a theme park that charged too much for little. Although Disney confirmed that there are only 70, it seems that there are more because of these symbols, according to other sources.
Fortunately, the guests defeat the giant demon and arrive at the main arena of the Underworld just in time to prevent Hades from leading his army of generic skeletons and Disney villains to the Magic Kingdom. Looking for brass plates embedded in the ground (in the style of The Wizarding World wand icons), guests would tap their Sorcerer's Key to close it and be ready for battle. It's sad to see Disney bringing out all the magic in the name of Covid without adding anything else to the experience.
