I am very excited that we will be attending Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party (MNSSHP) this year! I purchased tickets for CJ, the kids and myself while we were in WDW this month--as soon as they went on sale. I just purchased another one today over the phone for CJ's mom since she will be along in October. Yes, I know, CJ and I said we would NEVER take anyone along with us ever again but...lol!
So, I learned a bit about deals and discounts; forget getting them on Fridays. I am a DVC member and an Annual Pass holder AND I purchased all tickets in advance yet I do not get any discount because we want to go to MNSSHP on a Friday. Bummer.
It's not that we WANT to be there on a Friday, it just worked out that way. Originally we were going to be arriving in Orlando on a Thursday and even though there is a party that night, I did not want to feel rushed getting the kids ready and hurrying everyone there, for a late night, the day we get there. That is major overkill. The only other night the party is happening during the time we will be there is Friday.
Another thing: ordering over the phone and having tickets shipped cost extra; $5 for regular shipping, which can take 2-3 weeks or $15 for them to be expedited. I asked about picking them up at the resort or Guest Relations and was informed they only allow those who order 30 days or less in advance to do that, to cut down on lines.
So, I didn't get to save any money BUT I did get to use my Disney Rewards Dollars to purchase CJ's mom's ticket :) I don't regret choosing a Friday because we will now arrive on a Wednesday and have 2 days to get acclimated and ready to party!

I always wait and buy my tickets when i get there. The last time we based it on the weather forecast .. and was SO glad we did .. BUT since you're on kind of a min-vaca I can see where you dont have much of a choice. Too bad they charge so much to ship them .. has it always been like that ??
Sadly I dont think we're going to make it there this fall. I've decided to take the summer off with the kids and this will deplete my funds .. but I get the summer off ! I think its an "ok" trade off .. but I know I'll be wishing I was there when I read your reports. :(
